Carry of the Month; February: Back Wrap Cross Carry

Carry of the Month (COTM) is an ongoing feature for the BWIP blog and Facebook group. Each month one of the VBEs will choose a wrap carry or carrier to showcase and write a blog post with instructions or videos. At our monthly meetings throughout the valley, we will designate time to demonstrate the carry or carrier in person and answer your questions. Feel free to join in on the fun! Post pictures of you trying out the COTM in the comments here or on the Facebook group. Check out the bottom of this post for the prize raffled off for participation this month!

February's COTM is Back Wrap Cross Carry (BWCC). This month is sponsored by Babymoon Inn, scroll down to the bottom to see the awesome prize they donated! One of our lovely VBEs, Jenna, is demonstrating for this tutorial with her little guy. BWCC is a great carry for new and seasoned wrappers alike but it has a great feature in a half knot that is tied immediately. This holds your baby in place right at the beginning and gives you a chance to think about your step before moving on. Your base size wrap length is used for BWCC which can be a 5-7 depending on your build.

With the middle marker on your child's back, get him up on your back using your preferred method. Pin the top rails under your chin or between your teeth and make a deep seat under his bum.

Bring the ends under your arms and tie very snugly in a half knot.

Pass one end over your shoulder and over your child's back.

This pass goes over his bum and under his opposite leg to form half of the "cross" in Back Wrap Cross Carry. Pull any slack out as you go along.

Repeat the process with the opposite end

This forms the second half of the "cross" in Back Wrap Cross Carry.

Bring both ends from under your child's legs and tie tightly in a double knot in front of you.

This gives you a secure, multi-layered carry that should be supportive and take any pressure off your shoulders. It's especially nice if you have problems with ruck straps.
