Boba Air Review
CARRY OF THE MONTH; April: Christina's Ruckless Back Carry
Carry of the Month (COTM) is an ongoing feature for the BWIP blog and Facebook group. Each month one of the Volunteer Babywearing Educators (VBEs) will choose a wrap carry or carrier to showcase and write a blog post with instructions or videos. At our monthly meetings throughout the valley, we will designate time to demonstrate the carry or carrier in person and answer your questions. Feel free to join in on the fun! Post pictures of you trying out the COTM in the Facebook group or email us your entry. Check out the bottom of this post for the prize raffled off for participation this month!
April's Carry of the Month is Christina's Ruckless Back Carry and it's being demonstrated by Rhiannon Deason, Chapter Librarian and Volunteer Babywearing Educator. Christina's Ruckless is great back carry for beginning back wearing with a woven wrap. For those with sensitive shoulders this is a great carry to try as the weight is not centered on the shoulders. Featuring two reinforcing passes, Christina's Ruckless is also great for leaners and babies who just love to wriggle out of a seat. This carry is best as a base -1 or larger length woven wrap. Depending on the build of the wearer and the size of the child being worn, a woven wrap or stretch hybrid sized four and up are good lengths for this carry.
This carry starts on Center at your middle marker.
Place your middle marker on the center of your baby's back. Use your preferred method to get baby on your back. This could be a Hip Scoot, Santa Toss, or a Superman Toss. Rhi is using the Superman Toss method.
Keeping one hand on your baby, bring your top rails around and hold tension under your chin or with your teeth.
Bring the wrap between you and your baby, tucking no higher than the belly button.
Bring both tails over your shoulders. Hold tension on one tail between your knees as you work with the other tail. Tighten the wrap, strand by strand to remove tension. Take care not to over tighten the bottom rail.
Bring your working tail under your arm.
Now make a pass across your chest.
The wrap passes over baby's back. Extending your arm as if you were drying your back helps spread the pass.
Strand by strand tighten the wrap to remove any slack.
Gather the wrap in one hand, holding tension.
Then under baby's leg. This is a good spot to take a moment to guide any slack in the chest pass across your body guiding it through the pass across baby's back, then under baby's leg.
Hold tension on both tails between your knees. Now working with the longer tail do some strand by strand tightening with a little shimmy to remove any extra slack. Take care not to overtighten the bottom rail.
Flip this tail over your opposite shoulder.
Bring the wrap down over baby's back, tightening as you make the pass.
Take a moment to tuck under baby's bum, making a second seat.
The wrap then passes under baby's leg toward the front of your body.
Now tie a double knot in front.
Congratulations, you have completed a Christina's Ruckless Back Carry. You can choose to keep the chest pass spread for a little extra distribution of weight or bunch up the chest pass for your comfort.
