Carry of the Month: August; Robin's Hip Carry

Carry of the Month is an ongoing feature for the BWIP blog and Facebook group. Each month one of the VBEs will choose a wrap carry or carrier to showcase and write a blog post with instructions or videos. At our monthly meetings throughout the valley, we will designate time to demonstrate the carry or carrier in person and answer your questions.  Feel free to join in on the fun! Post pictures of you trying out the COTM in the comments here or on the Facebook group.  This month our sponsor for COTM is The Mason Jar Man Scroll down to the end of the page for more information about this local entrepreneur!

For August we are showcasing our first hip carry, though it can easily be positioned as a front carry. This is Robin's Hip Carry it can be tied with a size 3 or 4 woven wrap. If you have a longer wrap you can use that as well, the video shows a variation at the end of the carry.

This month our carry is being demonstrated by Tracy, one of our local VBEs, she is using a size 4 Didymos NINO and one of the weighted dolls our group made during the International Babywearing Conference. Thank you for volunteering this month Tracy!

Start about 1' off from the center of the wrap.

Place the wrap doubled over your shoulder with the shorter side on top.

Grab the side of the wrap that's closer to your body and bring it around your back.

Pull the end that is coming around your back through the loop that is resting over your shoulder.

This will form a pouch on your hip.

Place baby feet first into the pouch that was formed.

Tuck the bottom rail up under baby's butt.

Hold the other end of the wrap that is coming from behind your back and the end that is threaded through the shoulder loop, pull on both the snug them tighten them. If the shoulder loop is too low you can pull the side coming from your back. It should be about "corsage" height, the same height as with a ring sling.

Bring the two ends together and tie under baby's bum. If you have a longer wrap, before you tie off you can cross the ends over baby's bum and then under the opposite legs, then tie behind your back.

If you learn more effectively through videos, here is a great one from BabywearingFaith:
