Carrier of the Month; May: Meh Dai

Carry of the Month (COTM) is an ongoing feature for the BWIP blog and Facebook group. Each month one of the Volunteer Babywearing Educators (VBEs) will choose a wrap carry or carrier to showcase and write a blog post with instructions or videos. At our monthly meetings throughout the valley, we will designate time to demonstrate the carry or carrier in person and answer your questions. Feel free to join in on the fun! Post pictures of you trying out the COTM in the comments here or on the Facebook group. Check out the bottom of this post for the prize raffled off for participation this month!

We're getting into the 100 degree+ weather here in Phoenix, many of our members are asking "What's a cool carrier for the hot summer?", because of it's breezy possibilities the mei tai was chosen as the COTM for May. Demonstrating this month is myself, Rachael, and my daughter who is 15 months old and around 23 lbs. We are using the Infantino Wrap & Tie, it's very similar to the Infantino Sash that you can find in local stores. There are many variations of the meh dai, it was originally styled after traditional Asian baby carriers. All of the variations feature a rectangular body and four long straps. The one we are using for the photos has padded, straight straps. Other variations may have wide "wrap style" straps, cinching bodies to accommodate small babies or various hood styles. They can be made from simple canvas or cut from woven wraps and many fabrics in-between.

This month I will be demonstrating front and back carries in a meh dai, so you can try either or both and post pictures for the raffle.

May Membership Renewal Drive

Calling all BWIP Members, past and current!

For the month of May, we are offering $5 off any membership renewal! Whether your membership has lapsed or you just joined last month, consider renewing in May. If you membership is still active, your renewal will extend your membership for another year beyond your current expiration date.

Our members are the reason we are able to do what we do. We want to say thank you to all those that have joined BWIP and supported us over the last 3 years. We want you to continue to benefit from membership with our chapter. Even those that may no longer need to do carrier research or whose little ones have grown and are no longer so small!

Your membership with our chapter allows us to continue to provide and expand our education and support outreach throughout our community. It allows us to replenish and build up our library. It assists us in finding better, more appropriate space to continue to meet the needs of our community. It allows us to share the love with more caregivers and keep reaching more who may not have known all the benefits of babywearing.
